Lost or broken push-to-start smart key? Auburn Lock & Car Keys replaces and programs proximity smart keys for keyless ignition vehicles — on-site at your location, often the same day. No dealership tow, no week-long wait.
If your car starts by pressing a button on the dashboard (instead of turning a metal key in the ignition), you've got a proximity smart key — sometimes called a "smart key," "fob key," "push-to-start key," or "proximity key" depending on the manufacturer. The key fob talks wirelessly to the car continuously, and as long as it's inside the cabin, the car knows you're authorized to drive.
These keys are different from older transponder keys in three important ways:
Most major brands and most model years. Some examples:
A note on certain European luxury vehicles: Some Mercedes (2014+), BMW (G-series), Range Rover, and Audi vehicles from 2018+ require dealer programming due to encrypted security systems we cannot bypass. We'll know upfront based on your VIN and tell you honestly if dealer is the only option. Call (253) 796-8550.
Push-to-start vehicles really do need their fob — the car won't start without it. We make a new one from scratch.
Smart move — smart key replacement is the most expensive type of automotive key. A spare is great insurance.
Dropped it, ran it through the wash, broke the case — we replace and program a fresh fob to your car.
Came with one smart key (or none). Time to make spares before they're harder to come by.
Push-to-start key service typically takes 45-90 minutes including all programming.
We check your VIN against our programming database to confirm we can program a smart key for your specific vehicle.
OEM or quality aftermarket smart key sourced — we typically carry common models in the truck or can have one in same-day.
The hidden mechanical blade in the smart key is cut to match your car's door lock for emergency access.
OBD-II programming registers the new smart key with the immobilizer. We test door unlock, push-button start, and trunk operation.
